General Care and Information for 3M™ Paint Protection Films (PPF)
Care Tips when your car is first installed with 3M™ PPF
You can hand wash your car as early as 72 hours after PPF installation.
Avoid spray washing within 7 days of installation.
Do not use high-pressure wash nozzles with pressures of 4-5 bar directly aimed at and around the edges, as this may cause delamination within 7 days.
Areas around the fender, bumpers, and other sections are susceptible to localised delamination under certain circumstances.
Use only 3M-recommended car wax and car shampoo.
General PPF Care
1. Car Washes
When washing your car with a hose or power washer, avoid spraying the edges of the paint protection film to help reduce the chance of lifting the edges of the film.
Automated car washes may cause the film to lift at the edges.
Use 3M-approved PPF car shampoo for better results. Clean the surface of the paint protection film with warm soapy water, applying minimal pressure with a microfibre cloth.
2. Dyes and Chemicals
Some car wash shampoos, including those used at commercial car washes, may contain dyes or harsh chemicals that could stain the film.
Avoid using such shampoos and harsh chemicals to clean the film.
3. Waxing
Regular waxing of the vehicle and the film will help maintain the high gloss of the car protection film.
Wax build-up along the film edges may be removed with a detailing cloth, soft brush, or cotton swab.
Use 3M-approved car wax for better results.
4. Birds and Bugs
On your car bird droppings and insect debris may cause staining on the PPF coating and should be washed off immediately.
Keeping a proper coat of wax on the film can help to prevent staining and is the best way to remove bird droppings from car paint.
5. Tree Sap
On your car tree sap may cause staining and should be removed immediately.
If tree sap dries on the surface, it may cause staining. Contact your installer or 3M to get your car treated and minimise the damage.
6. Road Debris and Stone Chips
Road debris and stone chips can damage the film. Regularly inspect the film for any signs of damage and address them promptly to maintain the film's integrity.
