We developed 3M™ Lead Foil Tape 421 as an electrically and thermally conductive tape. This highly conformable tape resists flame, moisture, weather, UV degradation, chemicals and radiation. Mated with an easy-release film liner, our malleable tape can be shaped into complex or detailed patterns or die-cut into specific shapes to meet assembly and manufacturing process needs.
Pliable and Conductive Lead Tape
Our dark silver, 6.3 mil /0.16 mm lead foil backing is coated with a distinct green rubber adhesive that offers good initial grab and a long lasting bond. The lead in our 3M™ Lead Foil Tape 421 is a soft metal that offers excellent conformability. The lead foil is very pliable and can be shaped to the most detailed and intricate shapes or patterns. By rubbing the tape down with a smooth edged plastic piece or similar object, the tape can be made to better conform to the substrate. This is especially important if the tape is to be used as a “thief” in electroplating, where the edges must fully contact the metal base.
This lead foil tape is formulated to be electrically and thermally conductive and carries a strong acid and base resistance, making it ideal for electroplating, as a radiation barrier or x ray plate masking. Due to the density, weight and malleability of the lead foil, this tape makes an excellent choice for weighting and balancing, particularly for golf clubs where weight and conformability are crucial for balance and club performance.

Easy and Effective Uses
3M™ Lead Foil Tape 421 can be used as a mask to eliminate the chemical impacts of electroplating, anodizing or chemical milling. It is also used for x ray masking and radiopacity for x ray makers. This versatile and reliable tape can also be used as a moisture barrier or for thermo pane window sealing.
